The Owners were in the midst of a lower-level apartment renovation when they brought me on to design their backyard entertaining area and luxury screen porch. The existing house had a small porch area under an existing sunroom, but it was barely big enough for a few chairs, and not at all suitable for entertaining. They also had a large existing deck that extended off the back of their site where the ground dropped off, and no way to access these areas from the main level of the house, having to go inside and through the basement apartment to get to the backyard.

Their goal was to create a luxurious entertaining porch complete with a kitchen, fireplace, and enough space to fit a large table and sofa. The design had to connect with their kitchen on the main level for easy outdoor access, and the yard design needed to include a patio with a fire pit, a play area for their kids, and connect to the existing deck at the back of the property for a cohesive and unified space.
